Our small-batch tallow balms begin with carefully sourced beef tallow and are blended with purposeful botanical oils, butters, and other thoughtfully selected ingredients. Why Tallow?
Simple by nature. Rich in what matters.
Before skincare became complicated, people relied on simple, recognizable ingredients, and tallow was one of them.Â

Beef tallow is purified, rendered beef fat, often made from nutrient-rich suet found around the kidneys and loins. Traditionally used in cooking, soap-making, and skincare. Its naturally occurring fatty acids create a rich, deeply moisturizing ingredient that helps soften and condition dry-feeling skin.Â

We chose tallow as the foundation of our skincare because we believe effective everyday care doesn't need an unnecessarily complicated ingredient list. Tallow gives us a beautifully simple starting point that we can thoughtfully pair with botanical oils, butters, and other purposeful ingredients to create formulas for different skincare needs.Â

The result is skincare that feels both familiar and unexpected: rooted in old-world tradition, thoughtfully formulated for modern routines, and made to nourish the skin without all the extra noise.

Why We Make Tallow Skincare
Because what goes into the jar should have a reason for being there.
Highland Heritage grew from an appreciation for a simpler way of doing things, using what we have, understanding where it comes from, and choosing quality over excess.

When we began exploring tallow skincare, we weren't interested in creating one basic formula, changing the scent, and calling it something new. We wanted each balm to have a purpose. That meant learning about the ingredients, experimenting with texture and consistency, and thoughtfully pairing tallow with botanical oils, butters, and other ingredients chosen for what they contribute to each finished formula.

That philosophy became the foundation of our collection. Little Highland was created with gentleness and simplicity, while Signature Highland was created for everyday hydration. Ranch Reserve takes a richer, more intensive approach for hardworking skin.Â

Our Ingredient Philospohy
Tallow may be the foundation, but what we pair with it matters. We select botanical oils and butters to complement tallow’s rich, conditioning nature—jojoba for its lightweight feel, meadowfoam for softness and a silky finish, prickly pear seed oil for a more elevated botanical touch, and aloe butter for added creaminess and conditioning. In our richer formulas, ingredients like lanolin bring an even more substantial, protective feel to dry, hardworking skin.

Each blend is developed around the experience we want that particular balm to deliver, which is why no two Highland Heritage formulas are exactly alike. And because we work in small batches with ingredients that naturally vary from season to season and lot to lot, subtle differences in color, texture, or aroma are part of the character of the finished product—not something we formulate away.
